So, we all think people are exaggerating when they talk about the leap between amateur and professional standard work right? Surprise! They were not kidding! The leap of team work, pressure and expectations are taken to another level, and my first live show this year gave me the biggest learning curve I think I could have got.

With the extremely vague brief of 'Portsmouth' for a Live TV show idea, my group had way too many ideas all at once. With only three weeks to produce a Live show in every step of production we knew we had to decide and fast. After a few different ideas, we went for the Emergency Services. Reasoning; We wanted to reach further than students. We wanted to take our show up a notch from the previous year, and create something that could really be watched by anyone.

However, Emergency Services is nearly a broad a topic as Portsmouth, so we narrowed the idea into how the Emergency Services really help the people in Portsmouth, and tried to give the audience knowledge that benefited them in their daily lives, when it came to staying safe.

Great, idea bagged! Now the tricky part… What content do we include? Better yet which Emergency Services, and how are we going to organise location filming, risk assessments and scheduling while leaving enough time to edit and produce professional standard work in less than three weeks! After being told time after time our ideas were too ambitious the team decided we might as well push ourselves, aim for the stars and see what we can really do!

Everyone took their roles seriously and we managed to get scripts, content, video inserts, guests and even presenters ready in time to go Live! After hitting hurdles with re-edits of archive footage, and re-wording of scripts in the last week, no matter how stressful it was, the feeling of achievement as we got to see everything work out was incredible to say the least. And the atmosphere of broadcasting your own show live is truly exhilarating! All I can say is thank God for great team work!

It may have been an ambitious attempt, but I feel proud that we managed to do it. Could it have been better? Yes, but then perfection wasn’t expected, and we managed to grow as individuals and as a team throughout this crazy, yet amazing process!
